Six-month extension for HS1 services

On November 13 DfT announced that it had agreed a six-month extension to its agreement with Southeastern covering the operation of domestic services on High Speed 1. DfT promoted the extension as 'a boost for high-speed rail services to Sandwich and Deal', saying that the government had 'taken action to ensure high-speed rail services in Kent continue to run'. Transport Minister Stephen Hammond described the extension as 'good news' for passengers and local businesses along the route, providing 'certainty in the short term'. He added that his officials would now be looking at 'developing plans for the new direct award franchise', stating '1 am keen to see this vital route continue'.
