Subway rethink

Strathclyde Partnership for Transport has dropped plans to award a single turnkey contract for the tunnel infrastructure and trackwork element of the £288m Glasgow Subway modernisation programme. The contract covering tunnel lining works, drainage improvements and track renewals had been planned to run for three to four years, with an expected value of £20m to £25m and an option for subsequent maintenance. A single bid was received in response to the call for tenders, but SPT decided not to proceed to awarding a contract because of the lack of competition and the difficulty of assessing value for money.
