Northern announced on June 7 that it had received confirmation from RMT that the dispute called by the union over the use of agency staff had been resolved.RMT had been concerned that the use of agency staff to carry out additional revenue protection duties at stations was to be rolled out to other duties,a claim which the TOC repeatedly denied (RB1438 p10).Following a vote in favour of strike action,talks between the parties reached a settlement which RMT has described as 'an important victory'.This will see the ending of a 12-month trial of staff from Train-people on the eastern section of the franchise next month,as planned,and a twice-yearly review by Northern and RMT of the contract with G4S covering the western section,inherited from First North Western.
