Works starts on York ROC

Transport Minister Simon Burns visited York on January 16 to mark the start of work on the largest of the 14 Rail Operating Centres that under Network Rail's signalling strategy will eventually control all train movements (RB1395 p8). As well as the ROC, NR is also building a Workforce Development Centre on the site adjacent to York station. 'The government is committed to modernising the railways and this regeneration scheme provides another example of us making good on our promises through our partnership with Network Rail', said Burns.
