Financial close on ECML IEP

Financial close on the second tranche of trains to be supplied under the Intercity Express Programme was announced by DfT and Agility Trains on April 16. Following the initial contract covering the replacement of diesel 1C125 trainsets on the Great Western and East Coast main lines, this second batch of Hitachi Series 800 EMUs will replace the 1C225 electric trainsets on the ECML. Commercial close for the initial contract covering 92 trains (596 cars) was reached in July 2012 (RB1419 p1). In July 2013, DfT extended the scope of IEP to cover 1C225 replacement, adding 30 nine-car EMUs to the 27-5-year total train service provision deal includ-ing finance and maintenance.
