Around 5 000 passengers have begun using contactless bank cards to pay for journeys on London Underground and rail services. Card users touch in and out as with the existing Oyster smartcards. Following this pilot scheme, Transport for London expects to extend contactless payment card acceptance to LU, London Overground, Docklands Light Railway, Tramlink and most National Rail services within Greater London later this year. The new payment option has already been used more than 11 million times on TfL bus services since December 2012.
