With the first units of the Hitachi SET fleet not entering service until the second half of 2018 and the full fleet available for service in May 2020 (right), the new franchisee at lnterCity East Coast (p1) will also have to manage a further three years of operating the 1C125 diesel and 1C225 electric fleets, followed by their progressive withdrawal from service. Ideally, both existing fleets should be withdrawn by December 31 2019 to avoid the need for a derogation from the legal requirement for all passenger trains to comply with the Passengers with Reduced Mobility Technical Specification for Interoperability from that date.
