Balfour Beatty exits NR track renewals

In a trading update released on January 14, Balfour Beatty pic announced that 'we are no longer bidding for Network Rail's track renewal work'. The company's existing contract with NR runs until the end of the first quarter of 2014. Balfour Beatty declined to comment further on its decision to exit this market. When NR restructured its track renewals contracts in 2007 and reduced the number of contractors from six to four (RB1302 p1), the Balfour Beatty contract covering the South East area was reported to be worth £90m a vear.
