GBRf wins sand contract

GB Railfreight has announced that it has signed a contract with Sibel-co UK to move silica sand from the company's quarry at Middleton Towers near King's Lynn to glass production sites in Yorkshire. Starting this month, the contract covers flows to three locations, the Guardian Industries plant in Goole and the sites operated by Ardagh Group in Barsnley and Doncaster. Two trains will run three days a week and a third two days a week, a total of eight trains a week plus an occasional Saturday train. Around 400 000 tonnes of sand is expected to be moved each year.
