Unprecedented levels of wheel flats across the 26 DMUs operated by Greater Anglia forced the TOC to cancel many branch line services last month. On several days the entire timetable on some routes was covered by replacement buses, as the TOC sought to use wheel lathes at other operators to return its DMUs to service as quickly as possible. According to local sources, an average of 10 DMUs were out of service with severe wheel flats over the first two weeks of November, with 15 out of service on November 19. Amongst the worst days, November 18 saw 97 trains cancelled and on November 20 cancelled services totalled 105.
