On October 2 Virgin Trains West Coast introduced what it says is the industry's first Automatic Delay Repay system. This is expected to benefit 'around 3.5 million customer journeys', according to Virgin, with an estimated £2.8m of additional compensation expected to be paid in the first year. Using the parameters that apply to the existing Delay Repay scheme, ADR will calculate the refund due in the event of a delay and automatically credit the card used to purchase the ticket within three days. ADR is initially available to passengers purchasing service-specific Advance tickets through the Virgin Trains website or app.
