RMT members at First Great Western (RB1491 p8) took further industrial action on August 23, and again on August 29, 30 and 31, in the ongoing dispute over the role of guards, catering provision and the future employment of engineering staff when the IEP fleet (p6) is introduced. Further talks between the union and FGW on August 26 failed to make any progress, resulting in three days of industrial action over the August bank holiday weekend. While RMT says that support has been 'solid', insiders report that more than 100 union members had reported for work on August 23. RBI understands that with more staff intending to work during the three-day strike, the number who did book on was 'well into three figures'.
