Genesee & Wyoming buys Freightliner for £490m

US shortline group Genesee & Wyoming Inc announced on February 24 that it had agreed to acquire 95% of Freightliner Group Ltd from Arcapita and other shareholders for a cash consideration of £490m. Expected to close in the first quarter of 2015, the acquisition will also see G&W assume £8.5m in net debt and capitalised leases. 'Genesee & Wyoming brings additional investment firepower, extended international reach and increased below-rail infrastructure expertise to add to the existing strengths of the Freightliner Group', said Freightliner Group CEO Russell Mears. 'Their commitment to safety and service quality in all activities also mirrors our own values.'
