In the section on performance, DfT's prospectus for the replacement East Anglia franchise (p 1) notes dryly that the 83.7% PPM score for inter-city services 'presents a significant area for improvement'. Factors having a significant impact on performance include infrastructure failures, particularly track faults 'arising from issues with the renewals programme'. DfT also notes an increase in the number of fatalities on the route, particularly during the peaks between Liverpool Street and Shenfield. There has been a rise in delays per incident which is linked to service recovery. DfT notes that the early improvements made to fleet reliability by Abellio Greater Anglia during 2012 'have now stalled'. The prospectus provides a table comparing the reliability of each Greater Anglia fleet with the best for the relevant class. Although the reliability of the fleet as a whole is 'generally reasonable', traction characteristics are basic and do not deliver modern levels of acceleration and braking.
