All change for vehicle acceptance

From June 4 the use of Vehicle Acceptance Bodies to verify engineering change to rail vehicles and on-tTack plant will no longer be allowed and the Railway Group Standard GM/RT2000 will be withdrawn. This is the result of the Railways and Other Guided Transport Systems (Safety) Regulations 2006 which require companies to take more responsibility for managing the safety of their operations. According to RSSB, the use of a VAB is 'contrary to this intent'. Since 1994, companies have relied on VABs accredited by RSSB to certify that engineering changes to rail vehicles are in accordance with mandatory standards. In that time, around 110 000 certificates have been issued by 17 VABs.
