West Midlands Trains launched

The West Midlands Trains franchise, awarded to a joint venture of Abellio, JR East and Mitsui, began operations at 02.00 on December 10, succeeding London Midland. The new franchise is split into two sub-brands: West Midlands Railway for services around Birmingham, and London Northwestern Railway for operations on the West Coast Main Line from London Eus-ton to Northampton, Birmingham and Liverpool.
