The elected Mayor of Greater Manchester Andy Burnham and his counterpart for the Liverpool City Region, Steve Rotheram, have both criticised the announcement by Transport Secretary Chris Grayling of his support for Crossrail 2 just days after he had confirmed that electrification and other infrastructure projects outside London, and particularly in the north of England, were to be cancelled (p1).
