During a test run on December 30, one of the diesel engine modules of the Vivarail Class 230 DEMU demonstrator (RB1523 p1) caught fire. The train stopped at Kenil-worth where staff were safely evacuated and the blaze extinguished by the fire service. The trainset subsequently returned to Coventry under its own power. Converted from redundant London Underground District Line cars, the Class 230 is intended to provide a low-cost replacement for Pacers and other older DMUs. Power is provided by two self-contained modules under each driving car.
