Loop track renewals get underway

As Network Rail undertakes Phase 1 of a six-month programme to replace the concrete track slab in the single-track tunnel forming a loop under central Liverpool, Merseyrail Wirral Line services are terminating at Birkenhead Central and Birkenhead North from January 3 to February 12. Under Phase 2 from February 13 to May 29, on weekdays services will run as far as James Street in Liverpool. At weekends, trains will terminate at Birkenhead Central and Birkenhead North, with the exception of bank holiday weekends and April 8 when the Grand National is due to be held at Aintree.
