The Political Structure of UK Broadcasting 1949-1999

This fascinating book is a collection of lectures about the key postwar committees of inquiry into UK broadcasting. The lectures were given at Oxford in 1999 by David Elstein (b. 1944), who has spent his whole life in the media working for the BBC, BSky B, Channel 4, Channel 5 and ITV. Furthermore, he has also been a director of several media firms. These lectures were chosen for wider dissemination by a German PhD student Christian Herzog, who used them in his thesis. In his thesis, Herzog compared British and German media and communication policies. This was published in 2012 and titled, Towards a Market in Broadcasting: Communication Policy in the UK and Germany.
