THE US APPROACH TO ENVIRONMENTAL RADIOLOGICAL MONITORING

Environmental monitoring is performed to assess the dose to the general public as a result of radiological activities. All source pathways mush be considered when assessing the total effective dose to the public. Comparison programmes exist, but Accreditation programmes are not yet in place for most environmental processes. Several bodies are working on the development of Accreditation protocols. This could becone a vital issue with the increase in the number of sites undergoing decontamination And decommissioning efforts.
