In Part Ⅰ of this series (Lyons and Johnson, 1993) we provided a theoretical basis for a binomial expression (developed empirically by WCJ) and showed that it represents the changes in trans-vinylene unsaturation concentration with radiolytic dose in polyethylene as well as, and usually better than, other published relations (Dole et al. 1958; Lyons and Crooke 1963). In this paper, which will be published in fuller form elsewhere, we present measurements, using Fourier Transform Infra Red (FT-IR) absorption spectroscopy, of the concentration of trans-vinylene unsaturation at various radiation doses and discuss the use of such measurements in dosimetry.
