Utilization History of Blast Furnace Slag and Steel-making Slag

At Kobe Steel, 3 million tons of blast furnace slag and steel-making slag are generated per year. The properties of the slag have been investigated and ways of using have been developed since the 1970s. As a result, the effective use of slag properties has been commercialized in applications such as base course materials, aggregate and admixture for use in concrete, earthwork materials, etc. At present, all of the slag is efficiently recycled in various field as a useful resource. Such slag materials are also drawing attention from the viewpoint of saving resources and energy.
