At the time of writing we are experiencing a period of intensely cold weather and this is having a major effect on our LiPo batteries, perhaps surprisingly this is indoors. We fly in one particular venue early on a Sunday morning and it seems as though the heating is off overnight. So the journey to the venue with the battery packs in the back of the car has already cooled them from the temperature they were at in the workshop, which itself is only around 10℃. A temperature check at the venue showed just 6℃ so they are continuing to cool to this level.rnOnce put in the model the performance has been absolutely minimal with a voltage drop enough to cut the power within seconds. Two solutions have resulted in an improvement. Thernfirst was to bring the packs into the front of the car and make sure some hot air from the heater warms them and the second is to use body heat at the flying venue. Not the best idea from a health and safety point of view but every one carries around their battery packs in their pockets. This does work and flying has become possible again.
