I had the pleasure of meeting Dave Boddington on a number of occasions in the early seventies when I was a member of Nuneaton Aero-modellers. This was the time when Dave was promoting Club 20 racing and he made many visits to the Nuneaton club, whose members were some of his most keen followers. Dave produced a number of designs specifically to comply with his rules and to my mind the Empress was the best, though sad to say I wasn't very competitive with my model. As well as little racing planes, Dave was known for his skill in designing model aircraft of all types, sizes and shapes, all of which were sound in construction and flew well. The oddest model he designed, however, must have been the DB Autogyro. I remember at least three being flown together at the Nuneaton club but I never built one myself.
