Development of Aluminum Alloy Composite Brake Disk for Rolling Stocks

摘要

Brake disk material now in use with Shinkansen vehicles has been mainly Ni-Cr-Mo low-alloy cast iron. Recently, high strength materials such as cast iron — cast steel bilayered material and forged steel with high resistance to thermal cracking have been developed and put to practical use. However, those ferrous materials are not very effective in reducing the unsprung mass. Thus, attention is being paid to ceramic particle dispersed aluminum alloy composites, which are much lighter than ferrous materials and have good wear resistance under common test conditions. In this study, the possibility of using a lighter brake disk of this material is investigated. SiC particle dispersed aluminum alloy composite brake disks were installed on vehicle and tested on 100N Shinkansen and experimental car "Win 350" by JR West.
