OUTLINE OF PRTR LAW AND THE PREPARATION FOR ITS ENFORCEMENT

Law Concerning Reporting, etc.of Releases to the Environment of Specific Chemical Substances and Promoting Improvements in Their Management, "so-called PRTR Law, was promulgated on 13th July 1999.By the implementation of a PRTR system, this new law is intended to promote the improvements in the voluntary management of chemical substances by the businesses and to prevent any impediments in environmental protection, based on a different idea from the existing environmental laws. In order to start a PRTR in April 2001, the Environment Agency is now preparing for its enforcement.
