Hanson have announced that their new £49 million state-of-the-art brick production facility at Measham, in Leicestershire, will open this summer, in readiness for any upturn in the housing market.rnStanding on brownfield land previously used as a landfill site for factory waste, the new, fully mechanized plant features a low-energy, low-waste production process that has the capacity to produce 30,000 bricks per hour.rnHanson say the factory will initially operate on a double-shift basis, with the potential to step up to round-the-clock working as demand picks up.rn'Despite the economic downturn and the subsequent fall in demand for bricks, there remains a pent-up demand for housing,' said David Szymanski, managing director of Hanson's building products division.
