Fifteen branch members and guests visited Tarmac Buxton Lime & Cement's Tunstead Quarry on 20 August 2010. The guides for the day were plant manager Gareth Stratford and quarry manager Jason South.rnJason began by giving a brief history of the site. In 1874, when John Brunner and Ludwig Mond established the Solvay process for the manufacture of soda ash at Northwich, the raw materials for this process were salt (obtained locally) and limestone or lime from Derbyshire. In 1891 13 of the surviving owners amalgamated their 17 quarries into Buxton Lime Firms (BLF).
