Aggregate Industries have launched their new ECOPact low-carbon concrete range, which utilizes blended cement to meet increasing demand for more sustainable construction materials. ECOPact is said to offer customers a range of options to reduce the CO_2 emissions of their concrete by between 30% and 70%, compared with standard (CEM1) concrete, without compromising on quality. The standard ECOPAct product is a low-carbon concrete utilizing blended cement that has between 30-50% CO_2 reduction compared with a standard concrete (CEM1) mix. ECOPact Prime is engineered using higher blends of cements, including GGBS and fly-ash substitutes, to deliver 50-70% C02 reduction compared with a standard (CEM 1) mix, and ECOPact Max is the lowest-carbon concrete in the range, using alternative cement technology, such as geopolymers and alkaline activators, to offer a minimum 70% CO_2 reduction compared with a standard (CEM1) mix. Additionally, customers can choose to upgrade any ECOPact product to ECOPact Zero, a carbon-neutral offering achieved through offsetting any residual CO_2. Aggregate Industries manage this on the customer's behalf by buying credits in carbon-reduction projects through their offsetting partner, Circular Ecology. These projects include reforestation, clean water projects and investment in renewables.
