The Arizona Research Institute for Solar Energy, a solar research and development program of the University of Arizona, is planning to develop a solar research park in Phoenix. Speaking at an industry event, Joseph Simmons, director of AzRise, said that the non-profit project-dubbed the Riverpoint Solar Research Park-will be funded by the University of Phoenix and Southwest Solar Technologies. The University of Colorado also will collaborate on the project.rnThe proposed 20-acre project will be at the intersection of Interstate 10 and the Salt River in Phoenix, Simmons said. The purpose of the project is to test and generate concentrated solar power, compressed-air energy storage and agricultural and biofuel development.
