Sharp Jumps Headfirst Into Thin Film With Major Projects in Thailand and Italy

With thin film pioneers like Applied Materials expired on the battlefield (see page 11), Japanese solar giant Sharp; Enel, the largest power company in Italy; and STMicroelectronics, the leading European semiconductor supplier, have declared their entry into the thin film space. The three companies have signed a binding letter of commitment for a project financing agreement for 150 million Euros for the development of what will be Italy's biggest photovoltaic panel factory.
