August has been a very quiet month in almost all sectors of the German paper and board industry. In view of this no results are foreseeable yet in the latest round of pricing talks for graphic paper. So far there has been no marked upswing in receipts of orders since the end of the holiday period. Prices were rather on the soft side in August. Manufacturers are now hoping for heavy demand as from the beginning of September, an essential requirement for pushing through the announced price increases of up to 10%. Demand for LWC could also be better. A tight market is anticipated in autumn if general economic activity manages to pick up steam again. More price increases will then be on the way for offset paper. These have also been announced for unbleached kraftliner. Prices for coreboard in southern Europe, on the other hand, have slumped dramatically, the effects of which are noticeable in Germany, too.
