Producers raise prices of woodfree paper in the UK due to high cost pressure

Faced with immense cost pressure, producers of woodfree coated and uncoated paper have implemented higher prices in the UK and in other European markets. Meanwhile, delivery volumes in the first three months of the year remained well below the levels of the previous first quarter. Producers of publication paper are in a similar situation and they plan to push for significant hikes in their upcoming price negotiations. Owing to weaker demand from Asia and Europe, the upward trend for ordinary grades of recovered paper has slowed. Another contributing factor was the blockage of the Suez Canal. German paper producers continue to be a significant driver of demand and prices. There is still strong demand for packaging, so prices for nearly all cartonboard and corrugated case material grades rose in April.
