The two packaging groups Bemis Company Inc. of Neenah, Wl, USA, and Amcor Limited based in Zurich, Switzerland and Melbourne, Australia, received the go-ahead for their merger from the US competition watchdog on 30 May. The competition authority, which forms part of the US ministry of justice, announced its decision to consent to the takeover of Bemis by Amcor subject to certain conditions. In line therewith, Amcor has to divest three US plants for the production of flexible packaging for medical applications, more specifically the Asland, Massachusetts, Milwaukee and Madison, both Wisconsin, plants.
