No end in sight in falling pulp prices in August

Persistent weak demand characterises pulp markets in Europe. The turnaround, which producers had hoped for, will apparently not happen in August. Stability is a distant goal on the horizon as prices stand under pressure. "Call-ins from converters have continued to recede," a pulp producer told EUWID in August. Many paper mills are either taking downtime or have curtailed output. Pulp buyers still have the upper hand and have mounted pressure on prices, it is learnt. Pulp converters are reportedly not building up inventories. On the other hand, pulp producers cannot afford to sit on their stocks either and therefore find themselves forced to yield to buyers'demands.
