Effectiveness of retention aids for pitch control in TMP newsprint manufacture.Part II:High shear

The objective of this investigation was to determine the relative effectiveness of seven commercially available retention aid systems,using a Dynamic Drainage Jar and a headbox furnish from a TMP newsprint machine.In this paper,higher RPM than in Part I was used,simulating a modern,high speed machine.The results give an overview of the relative effectiveness of the various retention aid systems.Many of the retention aids had a negative effect on drainage,which might be detrimental on a drainage-limited paper machine.
