When All Else Fails, Go Up

Earlier this year, the City of Toledo, Ohio, approved a $1.5 million appropriation for further development and construction at the rapidly expanding Hoffman Road Landfill in northwest Ohio, near Lake Erie. Already a 1500-ton-per-day facility, owned and operated by the city, the 240-acre landfill is located entirely within city limits, where it serves a local population of roughly 336,000. As public services administrator for the city's solid waste division, my team and I were placed in charge of this project.
