Colorado Slashes Tire Costs With Retreads

The crews of the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) Region 5, Maintenance Section 3, know all too well that snow can pile up―and quickly. They keep 1800 miles of roads and mountain passes safe for travel during Colorado's snow season. The roads they clear include five mountain passes at elevations of about 11,000 feet. At these altitudes annual snowfalls of 300 to 400 inches are the norm. To make the task even more challenging, those five passes combined, have more avalanche paths than any other mountain passes in the continental United States.
