A new California law mandates that all urban water agencies in the drought-stricken state submit annual water-loss audits to the Department of Water Resources (DWR). The data must be certified by an expert in the field. The measure also requires the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) to develop performance standards to minimize water loss in distribution systems. In anticipation of Gov. Jerry Brown signing the bill into law, the American Water Works Association's California-Nevada Section (CA-NV AWWA) collaborated with DWR, SWRCB, and EPA on a program to help utilities.
