Urban Transport Integrated Programme in Sao Paulo: The greater Sao Paulo and the metropolitan collective transportation challenge

As the main productive hub of Brazil, Sao Paulo's Metropolitan Region is responsible for generating 16% of the GNP and in its 39 cities taken altogether, inside an area of 8,051 km~2 (0.1% of the total area), 10% of the entire Brazilian population are to be found. Nevertheless, the economic development which made Greater Sao Paulo become one of the largest metropolises in the world is very much imperiled, as well as its very quality of life. That is due to growing traffic jams, particularly in the central areas of the large conurbation around the capital and extending into the neighboring towns.%Als das hauptsächliche industrielle Produktionszentrum Brasiliens erzeugt das Ballungsgebiet von Säo Paulo 16% des Bruttosozialprodukts Brasiliens, und in den 39 Gemeinden innerhalb einer Fläche von 8 051 km~2 (0,1 % der Gesamtfläche Brasiliens) leben 10% der gesamten Bevölkerung des Landes.
