摘要

Public safety radio systems thrive on a basic resource-spectrum, the foundation for the communications that enable successful first response field operations. In days long past, radio systems were smaller, using simpler technologies, and spectrum was reasonably plentiful, considering the demand, and spectrum requirements could be taken for granted. That is no longer true.rnFirst response agencies are becoming painfully aware of the importance of understanding the requirements for spectrum resources while realizing the realities of spectrum availability. The majority of public safety radio systems, while having provided continued and reliable service for a significant life cycle, are subject to pressures that will force radio system managers to act in the reasonably near future. Many public safety systems have outdated equipment and limited future sustainability. Others will be feeling the pressure of narrowband requirements regardless of the age and condition of their radio systems.
