How Prepared Are We?: Congressional Committees Address Public Safety Issues

Prior to the August recess, Congress held several hearings of interest to APCO. These hearings addressed a wide range of public safety communications issues, including social media, disaster preparedness, broadband networks and cybersecurity. The House and Senate each held hearings on disaster preparedness and emergency response. For example, the House Homeland Security Committee's Subcommittee on Emergency Preparedness, Response, and Communications held a pair of hearings on how social media and new technology are transforming preparedness, response and recovery from man-made and natural disasters. The June 4 hearing focused on private sector innovations.
