The Pursuit of Social Equity in the Federal Government: A Road Less Traveled?

To what extent has the federal government achieved social equity throughout its workforce? In particular, to what degree have women and people of color succeeded in reaching the upper, higher-paying levels of federal employment? Professor Norma M. Riccuccl of Rutgers University draws on extensive empirical data to underscore that, with few exceptions, these groups, despite continued calls for greater equity, remain in lower-level,flower-paying, less prestigious jobs. Professor Domonic A. Bearfield of Texas A&M University argues for more commitment to the study of gender and race that draws on the "intersecqonal perspectives." These new, provocative ideas, he suggests, have not been fully integrated into public administration thinking.
