摘要

Visual stability is a phenomenon that has been puzzling visual scientists for more than a century. It refers to the paradoxical experience that our impression of the world usually appears to be stable and unified, despite the fact that our active exploration of the visual environment is continuously accompanied by saccades - fast ballistic eye movements, that occur at a rate of up to 3/s. By these eye movements, objects of interest are successively mapped onto the fovea so that we can achieve a detailed and consistent view of the visual world, but at the same time each saccade changes the retinal image quite drastically.
