View from the top: Caroline Bathgate

Valuation is tricky at the best of times. During a pandemic, it is nigh on impossible, Yet this is the challenge that all valuers have had to grapple with over the past year or so, among them Caroline Bathgate, Knight Frank's new global head of valuation and advisory. Bathgate, who joined the agency in 2004, took on the global role in March, replacing Rupert Johnson ahead of his retirement next year. In addition to managing a team of more than 900 people in 78 different countries, she has been tasked with developing and guiding the three-year plan for Knight Frank's valuation and advisory service lines. Property Week caught up with Bathgate to find out how the art of valuation has changed over the years, how tough it has been for valuers during the pandemic and what she thinks needs to happen now to ensure valuations are correct in a post-pandemic world.
