Anger over RICS chief exec bonus

Pressure is mounting on the boss of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) to waive a six-figure bonus he has been awarded despite the body's recent job cuts and furlough claim. A recently published remuneration report shows that Sean Tompkins was awarded £73,911, paid in January this year, for the group's 2019-20 plan, and an additional £189,720 as part of the deferred element of the plan, payable in 2022. Tompkins also received an annual salary for the year to the end of July 2020 of £254,341, down 2.1% on 2019, after he took a 15% pay cut for a six-month period. Senior property figures called on Tompkins to waive the bonus in light of recent cost-cutting measures taken by RICS, which included making more than 100 members of staff redundant and claiming taxpayer-funded furlough money for 30% of its UK staff during the pandemic.
