Editor: The recent roundtable discussion on the future of the residential property sector was all the timelier given the economic impact of Covid-19 and the increasing uncertainty now faced by a market only recently buoyed by the election and greater clarity around Brexit(p26,27.03.20). On the surface, the near future of the resi sector for investors may seem discouraging, but they should be assured that the fundamentals of the market remain strong - nowhere more so than in the rented sector. As the roundtable participants noted, opportunities presented by models such as build-to-rent (BTR) are appealing to developers and investors alike, offering a viable means to combat the shortage of homes in the UK and secure steady and reliable revenue.
