Rent and service charge collection rates remain down year on year

There has only been a modest uplift in rent and service charge collection rates in recent weeks, despite the best efforts of property managers, new research shows. Using data from leading property managers on 18,350 commercial and residential properties, Remit Consulting found that 21 days after March's rent quarter day, 67% of rents due had been collected, up from 57% after seven days. On rent quarter day itself, just 48% of rents were paid. By contrast, last year, 90% of rent had been collected by the seven-day mark, according to Remit's 2019 REMark report. Retail rent collection levels remain particularly weak at just 54%, up from 47% seven days after rent quarter day.
