David Atkins hails Victoria Gate as 'iconic' development

Hammerson's £165m Victoria Gate complex in Leeds will "raise the bar for retail across Europe", according to chief executive David Atkins. The scheme, which opened to the public last Thursday, is the largest shopping centre scheme to open in the UK this year, adding 450,000 sq ft to the existing 160,000 sq ft Victoria Quarter. Hammerson claims it is also the country's largest high-end shopping centre outside London, with an estimated rental income of £11m a year.
